I’ve been working on a series of lettering on barrel heads for an upcoming show and here is my 4th in that series. I documented a bit more of the progress for this one. These all start as a sketch to make sure the layout is right and will fit perfectly in a circle, then I start the long process of transferring that sketch onto the actual barrel head. I originally wanted to use paint for all of these but I ended up going with white colored pencil. It lets all of the wood texture show through more, and I actually like the inconsistencies of light and dark based on the wood under the pencil.
Announcing a re-release of my Explore decals! These vinyl decals are better than ever now with brand new packaging that is retail-ready, and they are now available in black as well. They will adhere to almost any smooth surface like cars, windows, computer backs, desks, etc. Pick them up here in my store.
Excited to get these pennants up in my store. Made by Oxford Pennant out of Buffalo, NY, these are wool pennants measuring 21 x 7″. Pick one up in my store.
Just finished up my third barrel head! Getting closer to getting this show together. “Time does fly” is something I actually have tattooed on my arm. It’s a phrase I often try to keep in mind because it’s a reminder that our time is finite and it seems to go quicker as you get older. So it reminds me to use my time wisely and not to put things off or be lazy.
I’ve been wanting to create some lettering out of sugar or coffee grounds for awhile now and Sweetest Day seemed appropriate to try it out with some sugar. So here is my first attempt at lettering with food.
Over the past year or so I’ve been buying old photos from antique malls and flea markets. I never really knew what I was going to do with them, but I just love everything about them. Some of them are of families and some of them are landscapes, but I just like thinking about the time they were taken and about who took them. This is my first effort to incorporate my lettering into one of them and I’m really happy with the outcome.
Just finished up my 2nd barrel head this past weekend! I’m hoping to make 6 – 8 larger wooden pieces and eventually do a show this fall or winter.
A few months ago I was contacted by California Limited to create several shirts for their summer line. California Limited is a clothing line with California inspired apparel, and the fun part (and mentioned in the name) is that all their clothes are limited runs. Shirts will go up on their site and be in stores just for a month or so period and then won’t be available again. Here are a few shirts that I’ve designed for them recently.
I recently had the pleasure of designing some branding for a great organization called Thirst Relief. Thirst Relief raises money in various ways to help provide clean drinking water to those who don’t have access to it. They’re kicking off a new campaign called Filters for Families where every $100 donated will fund a filter that will give a family clean drinking water for 25 years. Check out the campaign at https://thirstrelief.dntly.com/campaign/1456#/.
I’ve been wanting to get into larger pieces recently and this past weekend I finally had the time to do just that. I’m really happy with how this turned out so I’m hoping to do some larger pieces on wood and eventually do a show somewhere.
